5 Reasons to Workout - Besides Fat Loss!

In a world where working out is more often associated with weight loss than anything else, I wanted to give you 5 alternatives that focus on bettering yourself, your health and have absolutely nothing to do with altering your physical appearance.

1. To feel strong, confident and capable.

Working out is the best way to remind yourself that you're strong, confident and capable. Whether you lift weights, run or take dance classes, pushing your body to carry you through these activities will remind you just how much you can do when you keep going. Many people forget that working out does more than make you physically strong, it reminds you just how mentally strong you are too.

2. To feel good.

When you exercise, your body releases a range of mood-boosting hormones. Some of these include: endorphins (the feel good hormones), serotonin (the happy hormone, and dopamine (responsible for motivation and reward). At the same time, your body also suppresses other hormones responsible for stress and anxiety when your workout.

3. To keep bones and muscle's healthy.

As we age, our bone density decreases, increasing our risk of injury and illness. Bone density increases when our muscles get stronger. By introducing regular exercise, we promote healthy bone formation. This increases bone density and reducing the risk of injury and illness.

4. To boost your immune system.

I'm sure you've heard a lot of this this year, but do you understand how exercise helps? Analysis has found that in the short term, exercise can help our immune systems fight off pathogens. Research has found that in the long run, more regular exercise also slows down immune system changes that occur with age, in turn, reducing our risk of infection and illness.

5. Because you were born with a body that was made to move.

It has been proven time and time again that our bodies were designed to move. Our bodies function optimally - in many aspects - when we are physically active. In a time where most of us spend our day to day lives sat in front of a computer screen, and proceed to lounge on the sofa in front of the television each evening, making the time to move our bodies through exercise and working out is more important than ever.

I'd love to know, why do you workout?

Always here,

Beth x
